By now you may have heard that Idina Menzel, the star of the Broadway musical “Wicked,” and her husband, actor Taye Diggs have received multiple hate letters threatening bodily harm, because of their interracial marriage.

When my parents wed in 1970, my paternal grandmother locked herself in the bathroom, sobbing “Look what my son’s done now!”. My mom is black. When I was in grade one, in a private school, the other kids were told by their parents not to play with me as I wasn’t “like them”. But this was all 25+ years ago. Im amazed that this sentiment is still so prevalent today. In fact, I was certain that the intolerant folk had moved on to protesting same-sex marriages, but I guess I was wrong. If you aren’t white, or straight, or American, or Christian, hell, if you aren’t “one of them”, I guess you’re fair game for this kind of shit.

Heartfelt kudos to Taye and Idina for not bowing to the fear that these asshats have tried to install in them. You do yourselves proud.
